Egg yolks also have many health benefits. Several studies have shown that egg yolks contain cholesterol that can harm the heart. But others found no harmful effects of cholesterol when consumed in normal amounts, and by a healthy person.


Egg yolks contain more vitamins, both the type and number compared with the egg white. Each egg yolk contains seven vitamins, such as vitamin B6, B-12, A, D, E, K, and folate. Vitamin A, D, E and K are only found in egg yolk only, not in the egg whites.

All of the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) are found in the egg yolk. Egg yolk is one of the few foods naturally containing vitamin D. Egg yolk is a source of lecithin as well as egg oil for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. The yellow color is due to lutein and zeaxanthin, which are yellow or orange carotenoids known as xanthophylls.
